About The Site

AGW was founded way back in December of 2004, by Skittles and Damodar, as a forum in which to document their gaming experiences. Shortly afterwards, Ignignort joined up, and the forum became a meeting place for like-minded friends. Though many people came and went over the years, the small community of friends from near and far remained. Now after several iterations and a number of name changes, AGW is set to be the best it can be, casting a professional yet casual eye over the gaming industry.

Evening News - Tuesday the 28th of October
The Future of LittleBigPlanet

Media Molecule have spoken up about the future of LittleBigPlanet, and it looks like they’re hard at work bringing the content they wanted in the game for launch, up to scratch and ready for patching. This will hopefully include the ability to edit pre-made levels on the fly and track statistics such as how many times your levels have been played. The developers have also mentioned the possibility of a sequel, but have described their idea process of iterating on their current software as “fluid”. Could this mean downloadable episodic expansions and updates?

When Zombies Attack, Again

In a possible attempt to steal some of Left 4 Dead’s thunder, Treyarch have included a zombie mode in the upcoming Call of Duty : World at War. The mode can be unlocked by finishing the game, and has support for up to four players. You’ll be able to earn money by killing zombies, which in turn can be used to purchase weapons and ammo, used to kill more zombies, thus perpetuating the violence. Players will also be able to use the money to barricade doors and windows, and increase their chances of survival.

Personally I think they could have just included this mode from the get go. Making someone play through a game to unlock bonus features is ok, but when it’s a co-op game mode, it gets a little annoying.

Morning News - Friday the 24th of October
PS3 Fallout dubbed Inferior

According to a recent review in the magazine PSM3, the PC version of Fallout 3 is visually stunning, however the Xbox 360 version falls behind somewhat, mainly due to its rougher textures. The PS3 version? Well apparently it "compares poorly to its Xbox and PC counterparts". The review goes on to say that this is due to textures appearing to be "muddy" up close, with more jagged edges, and a choppier frame rate.

Not to worry though. The reviewer also says none of these problems are more than a slight annoyance, and will not hinder you enjoyment of the game in any way. Thankfully I'm not so easliy scared, and I'll still be picking up my PS3 copy on release.

Bobby Kotick is a Douchebag
An ex-quality assurance tester has spoken up on the merger between Vivendi and Activision, and the result is some pretty scathing criticism, and a thoroughly good read.

"Activision is sleazy though and I'm not just saying that because I got laid-off, I'm saying it because Bobby Kotick is a douchebag whose master plan is to dominate the industry, replacing innovative games for real hardcore gamers with easily-marketable generic washed-up CRAP for the masses."

When Zombies Attack

Who loves zombies? Everyone, that's who. As a precursor to the coming storm, Blizzard have launched an AWESOME world event. Appearing in ports all around Azeroth are small green-glowing crates with grain symbols stamped on them. Any players coming in contact with these crates are infected with a disease, which will turn them into a zombie after ten minutes - this is where it really gets cool. Zombie players are given a whole new bar of abilities, including the ability to infect other players. They're also able to attack any player, and any NPC they like, until they're brought down by the zombie hate of other players.

Woman murders virtual ex-husband, goes to jail in real life

Classic. A 43 year old Japanese lady has been sent to the slammer, after virtually murdering her 33 year old virtual ex-husband. Both players of the popular online RPG Maple Story, the man had divorced his in-game wife without warning. Taking this betrayal a little too seriously, the woman logged onto the man's account and deleted his character in a fit of rage. Upon realising his character had been deleted, the man called the police. The woman has been sent to jail for suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data. In Japan, this crime could mean a five year prison sentence, or up to $5000US in fines.

Grand Theft Corpo
Ok so I couldn't think of anything EVE Online themed to replace the auto, but just roll with it. Space Pilot/Pirate 'thelung187' has made a name for himself in EVE Online, by successfully robbing his corporation Destructive Influence, of 200 Billion ISK. For those of you who haven't played, that's a LOT of money. In fact, if someone knew how to fence that kind of virtual money in real life, it could potentially fetch tens of thousands of dollars in tangible currency.

To top it all off, it seems thelung's conscience got the better of him, and he was kind enough to leave 150 Billion ISK in the bank for his corp. Who said there's no honour amongst thieves?

Fable 2? More like Un-Stable 2.

Am I right? It seems some consumers are experiencing freezing problems with Fable 2, and have taken their complains to the place where all issues and opinions are given attention and fair consideration - the internet. It's currently unknown whether this is a problem with the software, hardware, the recent multiplayer patch, or just totally bogus. However I'm sure this won't be the last we'll hear of it, if there's a widespread problem.

Morning News - Wednesday the 22nd October
Bioware's Big Reveal Blown - Star Wars : The Old Republic Officially Announced.

IGN have blown Bioware's big reveal, and posted a four page look at the upcoming MMO from the creators of Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic, set in the same universe. Star Wars : The Old Republic, will be set approximately 300 years after the events in the last KotOR game, and will place the player in a conflict between the established Old Republic, and the regenerated Sith faction.

Undoubtedly EA has formed this Axis of Awesome to compete with their rivals over at Activision/Blizzard, and forge their own destiny in the MMO market. However as long as Bioware retains creative freedom under EA's wing, I'd say this game can do no wrong. Of course, only time will tell.

Alan Wake is not Vaporware.
Although Alan Wake has been absent from every major gaming event this year, the game hasn't quite fallen into obscurity yet. A new cinematic trailer was released today, and though it doesn't shed much light on the gameplay, or how far the development has progressed, it certainly whets peoples appetites for this (hopefully) upcoming psychological thriller.

Alan Wake is the story of a best-selling horror writer, who suffers from insomnia and retreats to sleep clinic, located in the small town of Bright Falls. Finally able to sleep, Alan Wake experiences terrible nightmares, which form the basis of his new book. However it isn't long before the town begins to transform into a nightmare strikingly similar to his own.

Evening News - Monday the 20th October
Kmart Gets What's Coming

Striking a blow for release dates everywhere, Microsoft have apparently punished Kmart for breaking the street release date for Fable 2. The game went on sale in some stores last friday, and some lucky customers managed to pick them up before Microsoft got wind of the situation. Unfortunately for Kmart, each of those lucky customers has cost them $1000, and to top it all, Kmart will not receive any copies of Gears of War 2 on launch.

This isn't the first time I've heard of Kmart breaking release dates, and hopefully they'll have learned their lesson this time.

LittleBigPlanet delayed. Australian release date unknown.
LittleBigPlanet has been delayed due to of all things, lyrics in one of the games backing tracks. The lyrics in question are quotes from the Koran, and their use has been labelled as offensive by some members of the community.

The song in question has been released to mainstream audiences, and featured in other forms of media, however it's presence in a game has suddenly found to be taboo. Ridiculous as it may seem, it's only natural for Sony to be cautious after it's last religious fiasco.

Blizzard's Next MMO Will Be "Different"

The next MMO from the masterminds behind World of Warcraft will not be a sequel to the ten million strong time-sink, but will be "different." While rumors of World of Diablo and World of Starcraft pop up all over the place, I can't help but think the next MMO from Blizzard will be a new IP. By creating an MMO outside of the fantasy genre, Blizzard stand a chance of keeping their millions of subscribers, and hooking in another ten million.
